Declaration Project

We the Women of the United States of America declare independence through this document from sexism. Separating ourselves from the harsh community that discriminates against people for their gender will protect the future of our government. Thus, we hereby exempt all of those who sexually discriminate from our newly established government.

Throughout the years science has proven that women are equal to men, that women are able to comprehend the exact same knowledge as a man can. Yet, so many people who govern believe that women are inferior and deserve a lesser amount of hourly wage for a job than a man in the exact same position. Where is the logic to this? A study conducted in 2012 revealed that the median earnings of American women working full time year-round were $37,791. On the other hand, American men earned a median income of $49,398. In 2012, a study concluded that women  make 77 percent of their male counterparts. Women who work just as hard as men don’t receive the same amount of money, and this is only one of the terrible inequalities that women face each day. In order to excel in the economy, women must live in a new government that has an equal pay wage.

The belief of women’s inferiority also leads to violence against women. 1 out of 6 women have been a victim of completed or attempted rape, and the women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are more likely to be raped by a fellow comrade than they are to be killed by the enemy. No woman should ever have to deal with such a degrading experience. These crimes cause women to suffer depression, post traumatic stress and they are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol after being attacked. Women are four times as likely to commit suicide if they have been sexually assaulted. With these numbers, something needs to change! If women were believed to be equal some of these numbers would definitely decrease.

Women face the inequality of being maligned for pursuing sex with multiple partners, what some call “Slut Shaming”. A study that was published in the journal Personal Relations surveyed 810 women the ages of 18 through 23, they found that the greater the amount of sexual partners a woman had, the more likely they were to face discrimination. Also in 2003, it was found that 55 percent of women and 35 percent of men said to have “lost respect” for those who had many sexual partners. Women are called repulsive names such as “slut”, “whore”, “hoe” and the list goes on and on. All of this malicious behavior can really affect women and their self esteem, no women wants to be put down for their sexual behavior and they shouldn’t be. Most men don’t run into this issue; men don’t get hostile remarks for their sexual behavior or amount of sexual partners. All people have the right to casual sex, yet only one gender is maligned and criticized for it. In a newly established government where women are equal, women wouldn’t face this.

In our current society women face inequalities each and every day that affect their health, self esteem and even their placement in the economy. In a new government women will be able to thrive and will overcome stereotypes that have existed hroughout all of American History.  With this declaration we declare independence for all women from everything that tries to destroy them.
