We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, but all sources of and access to energy are not. We are endowed with certain unalienable rights – Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Like our energy sources, these rights are becoming increasingly diminished: LIFE – Now challenged by the growing environmental destruction of our planet through increased consumption and dependence upon nonrenewable fuels LIBERTY – The restraint of our domestic economic freedoms associated with the cost of armed protection of oil sources in foreign lands – while being at the mercy of powers in these foreign lands to dictate worldwide price and pressure our very government PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS – The insecurity resulting from the threats above, and inherent in our countries refusal to broadly support alternative fuels and power in the face of a growing depletion of nonrenewable sources In the face of these destructive ends, it compels us to call upon our government to change, instituting new principles for Safety, Happiness and Prudence – those very same words that formed our first declaration in 1776. The call to government: SAFETY – To commit to a clear and measured course of reducing our reliance on nonrenewable fuels in general, but firstly from fuels imported from elsewhere than North America – safety in energy security HAPPINESS – To commit to a clear and measured course of financial and other public/private support for American ingenuity in the research and viable commercialization of domestic sources of renewable fuels – happiness in the knowledge that we have an unalterable national will for a domestic renewable energy economy PRUDENCE – To communicate consistently and clearly to the American people that these courses of energy action are absolutely necessary for the economic, social, and environmental welfare of our country and anything otherwise is ruinous in the ever nearer term Governments are instituted among Men and Women deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. • The governed reject the special interests granted to the energy few including the fostering of habits which increase our nonrenewable energy addiction, • we reject the continued reliance on nonrenewable fuels, and the oft despotic or unfriendly nations which control our access and economic fortune • we reject the partisanship of our elected few which has led to a fractious, inconsistent, ineffective and thus impotent energy policy For our planet, our people, our prosperity, and our public wealth and wellness… We, the people hereby declare and give our hand in pledge, individually and collectively, to pursue the course of domestically sourced energy and, wherever possible, renewable sources, and from this day forward do all in our power to promote a national movement committed to these ends. Our signature below is the start of the call for all Americans to do likewise.

Source:

http://www.amerigreen.com/100AmericanFuels/DeclarationofEnergyIndependence.aspx

http://www.cleanenergycouncil.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Wind-Turbine-sunset-Creative-Commons-commercial-reuse.jpg

Editor’s Note: According to this site, this declaration, which in structure and rhetoric at least in part was inspired by our July 4, 1776 document, was signed in August 2011 “during several Energy Patriots events held in Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD; York, PA; and Philadelphia, PA.
