Editor’s Note: This declaration, which includes five core principles, was initially the brainchild of\u00a0the U.S.-based advocacy group Free Press<\/a> and the New America Foundation’s Open Technologies Institute<\/a>. \u00a0In short order,\u00a0thousands of organizations, startup entrepreneurs\u00a0and tech luminaries joined the Declaration of Internet Freedom\u00a0bandwagon. One key aim is to secure\u00a0millions of endorsements of the declaration on the web-based petition by individuals and organizations, as an effective means for gaining sufficient political\u00a0clout to be able to combat\u00a0any cabal of\u00a0special\u00a0interests that might seek to do away with\u00a0unfettered Internet use for its own advantage.<\/p>\n

We believe that a free and open Internet can bring about a better world. To keep the Internet free and open, we call on communities, industries and countries to recognize these principles. We believe that they will help to bring about more creativity, more innovation and more open societies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We are joining an international movement to defend our freedoms because we believe that they are worth fighting for.<\/div>\n
Let\u2019s discuss these principles \u2014 agree or disagree with them, debate them, translate<\/div>\n

We support transparent and participatory processes for making Internet policy and the establishment of five basic principles:<\/p>\n
